How to get rid of an old TV in the High Desert
Cheapest first: give it away, donate it, use your city's free program, drop it off, and pay a hauler only if the rest fail. This page covers the High Desert (Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley and nearby).
Will someone take an old TV for free?
Good for a working flat screen; nobody wants a tube TV or a cracked panel. Post working sets with the size and a photo of it turned on. Everything else is free e-waste drop-off, which is quick.
Step by step
- Post a working TV free. Photograph it on, say the size and whether the remote is included. Flat screens go within hours.
- Drop a dead one at an e-waste site. Recycle Alley, 17000 Abbey Lane, Victorville, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or the Hesperia HHW facility on Lemon Street for Hesperia residents.
- Check retailer take-back. Best Buy and some other retailers take TVs for recycling, sometimes for a small fee. Call ahead.
- Do not put it in the trash or at the curb. TVs are not accepted in the barrel, and bulky pickups and cleanup events usually exclude electronics.
Worth knowing
- TVs and monitors cannot go in the trash in California. They are electronic waste and are accepted free at e-waste drop-offs.
- Recycle Alley at the Victor Valley Materials Recovery Facility (17000 Abbey Ln, Victorville) accepts TVs and computers free from Victor Valley residents and businesses.
- Hesperia residents can drop e-waste free at the Hesperia Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 17443 Lemon St, during its open hours.
- City cleanup events and bulky pickups often exclude electronics; ask before setting a TV at the curb.

Donation pickup
Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the Salvation Army pick up usable furniture and working appliances in many areas; use each one's online locator to find the nearest store and its rules. Items must be clean, working and complete. Starting with tax year 2026, non-itemizers can claim a deduction for charitable donations.
Or post it on Fjerne
One post with a photo and your ZIP code. Nearby collectors offer to take it for free or quote a removal price, and you choose. During the pilot a person forwards your post to collectors in range, usually the same day. Your street address stays private until you pick someone.
